• Get on Board is a stimulating and high impact workshop for corporate organisations who wish to support commercial executives who are interested in engaging in a leadership capacity and becoming a non-Executive Director on a for-purpose board or a skilled volunteer/mentor.

    of passion and purpose

    with peers

to communicate once informed & supported

to direct energy, capability and engagement

to an organisation doing something you believe in

The Get on Board session equips participants with the knowledge and insights required to connect to, and add value to mission-driven non-profit organisations, and to secure a role that has individual resonance.

The workshop will provide participants with information, inspiration and tools to support personal performance at the board level and extend leadership effectiveness in the for-purpose context.

Participants will be able to confidently communicate with stakeholders and potential Boards in the for-purpose sector on sector trends and challenges; and extend their network of like-minded peers driving improved societal outcomes.

This active learning workshop includes personal reflection, peer dialogue and a panel of sector experts including non-executive directors and board advisers, sharing diverse and powerful stories and insights from their experiences as leaders/board directors.

    • A program to increase attendee leadership capability, broaden their perspective, improve their understanding and effectiveness in the for-purpose space

    • Information, due diligence checklists, connections and support (where desired) to be able to implement their personal strategies and move towards a board position

    • Tools and support to help clarify and shape a personal ‘social impact’ plan which aligns individual passions, skill and time availability with the needs and realities of sector board roles

    • An understanding of the responsibilities of Board members, and critical trends in innovation and sustainability for mission-driven organisations

*In addition, participants will have access to People for Purpose’ networking events, including the joint-run People for Purpose and Australian Institute of Directors ‘Boards seeking Directors’ event.

We have tailored our workshops for many corporate clients including Macquarie Bank, State Street Global Advisors and Telstra and can deliver this in either a five week module series (12 -2pm) or in a full day workshop.

  • Imperative’s 2015 Workforce Purpose Index

'Our study across 6,500 workers has revealed that the most valuable members of the workforce are purpose oriented, with 20% of them having longer expected tenure, 47% being more likely to be promoters of their employers and 64% claiming to have higher levels of fulfillment not just in their working lives, but in their lives more broadly'

Telstra is Australia's largest telecommunications and media company and they believe the more connected people are, the more opportunities they have. They are committed to sustainability and to community engagement, with a focus on employee involvement with the community. One of Telstra's contributions to the for-purpose sector is to support leaders looking to participate through their leadership program.

Telstra General Manager - Talent Development and Performance, Paul Stratford, was looking to provide his executive team with the opportunity to participate in an interactive program designed to increase executive leadership capability and support personal and professional growth and success.

People for Purpose supported Telstra by running a Leadership for Social Impact workshop for executives. Attendees were high-impact, high-potential executives who have a desire to utilise their expertise or influence for positive social change. We equip them with the knowledge and insights required to add value to social purpose organisations, and recommend opportunities to pursue meaningful engagement with for-purpose boards.

    A Telstra participant's experience

Reid Johnson, Director of CSU Enterprise

'People for Purpose opened my eyes to the reality of the for-purpose sector. They provided deep insights into the challenges and opportunities in this market segment. Their framework really helped me focus my attention and provide clarity around what I am most passionate about and then through industry contacts, helped me navigate this complex ecosystem'
